Do we share too much personal information on social media websites?
Notes
Write about:
- uploading images
- posting comments
- (your own idea)
These days social media users can share too much information about their personal lives. I completely agree and feel this is unsafe for three main reasons.
Firstly, sharing photographs can reveal personal details to scammers. Firstly, if they are of parties, others can find out our relationships with the other people, while if they are from holidays, they can inform criminals their house is empty.
Secondly, commenting on other users’ posts or blogs can also present privacy issues. Doing this can draw the commenter into discussions, which can end in unintentionally revealing private details. These details, such as date of birth, can be used by these scammers to try and hack into bank accounts and other financial sites.
Finally, regardless of how someone meets another user online, they will probably never know who that person is. It is impossible to check whether that person is telling the truth or not. For example, if someone makes friends online, it is easy for them to give fake information.
In conclusion, although social media is good fun, it is advisable to take precautions and understand that people may not be who they say they are.
