Introduction
This is a report about the shopping habits of young people in Scotland, current changes and what will affect them in the future.
Young People’s Shopping Habits in Scotland
In general, younger people living in Scotland are careful with their money when making major purchases, such as clothes, appliances or electronic devices. As a result, they will often go to shops to discover which brands they prefer, which styles they like or what the device can do. After that, they will go home and try to find the exact same item online for a cheaper price with the same warranty or guarantee. Other cheaper items, such as snacks, will often be purchased on the spur of the moment.
Current Changes
These habits are changing, though. Since the series of pandemic lockdowns, many households, including the younger family members are buying their grocery shopping as well as take away meals online. Rather than going to established online stores, these items are available from traditional stores who have seen the change in trend and are moving online themselves.
Future Influences
Among the many advances in technology, online shopping may have the greatest effect on these young consumers. In my opinion, they will be able to try before they buy from home with returning an unsuitable item becoming increasingly easy. This may have the effect of pushing out smaller retailers from the market, so even more mass-produced products are bought.
Recommendations
Although the younger consumer market can be fickle, I would strongly suggest that the most attention is given to any kind of online purchase as long as the credit terms are not too loose.
