Your class has had a discussion on the best ways of improving the general health of people in today’s world.
You have made the notes below.
What’s the best way of encouraging people to live healthier lifestyles?

‘There’s so much TV advertising of junk food – no wonder everyone’s overweight.’
‘It’s up to individuals to decide how they live, not the government.’
‘If children understand the importance of good health, there won’t be a problem in the future.’
Write an essay discussing two of the ways n your notes. You should explain which the best way of encouraging people to lead healthier lifestyles, giving reasons in support of your answer You may. if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the discussion, but you should use your own words as far as possible.
Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style.
There is an ongoing discussion about how to encourage the general public to live their lives in a healthier way. Out of the many methods available, the two that are most prominent are educating school age students and government funded initiatives.
Schools can influence children’s attidtudes to health in fundamental ways. Firstly, classes on personal health could include detailed realistic information and examples, while showing them the dangers of being lazy or eating junk food. If the classes included the prices of healthier goods, then students would be able to help themselves if parental care is lacking. These classes should also link this issue with exam success, showing how a healthy body creates a healthy mind. Continuing traditional compulsory P.E. classes would also help students start this regime
Local government could also make a difference. Primarily, they could make sturdy free exercise equipment available in parks and even on pavements, so those who cannot bear going to sports centres can exercise conveniently near their own homes. In addition, the national government could enact legislation to restrict the marketing and sales of cigarettes and alcohol as well as snacks that are too sweet or too salty. Posters could also encourage people to look out for their friends and family who are feeling depressed.
In conclusion, although schools can give students a firm foundation in leading healthy and fit lives, the onus should be on both local and national governments to bear the responsibility of encouraging the general public to lead healthier lives through more exercise and better diet.
