Why are the people enjoying these experiences?

Sample Answer

1 minute to compare and contrast the two pictures as well as answer the question.

In the first picture, there are three girls who look as if they’re playing in a bedroom, playing music as a band, while in the second picture there’s a girl lying on her back on grass in what could be a park looking at a video or maybe even just listening to an Mp3. I say they’re enjoying the experiences. The girls in the bedroom are enjoying the experiences because playing music together makes the sound of the three instruments greater than the sum of their parts. Whereas the girl in the park looks as if she’s just relaxing and taking it easy. So, she’s on her own outside while the other three girls, who could be around about the same age are inside in a bright pink girl’s bedroom playing instruments.

Analysis

This is my opinion of the above answer. The answer was given as in a test, with minimal preparation time.

This way of answering is the most common. talk about one picture, then talk about the other. If you have time, then talk about them both. There are pitfalls doing it this way, the biggest one being that it is really easy to run out of time.

The questions were answered immediately and clearly, with the answer finishing with a comparison.

Good use of phrases, such as ‘look as if’, ‘what could be’ and ‘who could be’ etc to show doubt.

Good use of ‘whereas’ and ‘while’
