1 minute to compare and contrast the two pictures as well as answer the question.

In the first picture, it looks as if there’s a mother helping her son with his homework. And I think it’s important that she gives some good advice in that situation so he doesn’t become discouraged if there’s something that he can’t do. In the second picture, however, it looks as if there’s a football manager giving a football team, a team talk in the dressing room at halftime, and so it’s probably important for him to give advice, too, so that they can win the match. They’re all wearing football strips apart from the manager in the dressing room, while the woman and her son are just wearing their casual clothes in their living room. And there are only the mother and son in the picture in the first picture, while there are over five people, I think there’s eight in the second.

Analysis

This is my opinion of the above answer. The answer was given as in a test, with minimal preparation time.

This way of answering is the most common. talk about one picture, then talk about the other. If you have time, then talk about them both. There are pitfalls doing it this way, the biggest one being that it is really easy to run out of time.

The questions were answered immediately and clearly, with the answer finishing with comparisons.

Good use of phrases, such as ‘it looks as if’, ‘probably’ etc to show doubt.
