B2 First Speaking Part 2 sample Answer

1 minute to compare and contrast the two pictures as well as answer the question.

In picture 1, it looks as if a mother and daughter are shopping in a supermarket, while the people are shopping in an outside night market in the second one. The mother and daughter look as if they are discussing something they may want to buy in an aisle packed with tins or packets of food, whereas all the food in the night market looks as if it’s as fresh as it can be. As far as I’m concerned, the people in photo 1 are shopping in a supermarket for the variety of safe produce that they can buy for a known price. On the other hand, many will go to the night market to haggle and bargain to get the cheapest price they can. These shoppers will have probably have less money to spend and won’t make choices in the same way that the mother and daughter do when they shop in a supermarket.

This is my opinion of the above answer. The answer was given as in a test, with minimal preparation time.

This answer starts only has comparisons. If the pictures are different, then don’t be afraid to miss similarities. If you try and look for them, then you’ll hesitate and waste a lot of time.

The questions were answered immediately and clearly, with the answer finishing with comparisons.

Good use of phrases, such as ‘it looks as if’, ‘probably’ etc to show doubt.
