Open plan office - Why might these people be working in these situations? - C1 Advanced Speaking Part 2 Question

Sample Answer

1 minute to compare and contrast the two pictures you have chosen as well as answer the two questions.

I’d like to talk about the engineer in picture 2 and the office workers in picture 3, please. Apart from the obvious reason of working for a salary, all of these workers are putting the skills they have to their best use. While it’s common for an engineer to work on a machine, which needs upgraded or repaired, not everyone can do that. The same can be said of office workers in an open-plan office. Not everyone can work in such a place with many people milling about and having different conversations to get different aspects of their job completed. Here, the engineer is on his own and will probably be able to concentrate fully on what he is doing, which may not be the case for everyone in the large office. Saying that, if there is a problem, it is probably easier for the office workers to ask a colleague for help rather than the lone engineer.

Analysis

This is my opinion of the above answer. The answer was given as in a test, with minimal preparation time.

Adding descriptions when choosing the pictures saves time.

Talking about similarities first is something you can work on and helps as part of a plan.

If you talk about what you want to contrast without any problems, then contrast again with something easier. Here it is being alone and in a busy office.

I thought some good vocabulary was used.
