Text

I’m older now, so I’ve had gifts. I’ve had many, many gifts over the years from my wife, from my friends, from my employers, from my colleagues, and so on. Some for my birthday, some for my Christmas, and some for other reasons. The gift I’d like to tell you about today, however, is one that my daughter gave me several years ago. And it was a tin of assorted biscuits at Christmas time. I love biscuits, biscuits and cakes, actually, but, you know, biscuits are just right though, not too much. Sometimes cakes are a bit too heavy and make me put on weight, but biscuits seem to be okay. And so my daughter knew this, you see, and so she thought, what would I like? What could I use and enjoy? And so she didn’t want to give me a bottle of alcohol or anything because she was too young to buy it.
And so, she bought me this box of biscuits. And the lovely thing was, was this was the first year that she’d chosen my Christmas present herself. Because before that, her mum used to help her, or buy it for her, or help her choose. And so this box of biscuits must have been about this size (showing the size with my hands). quite a big box and so there were all kinds of my favourite biscuits inside so I thought it was wonderful. There were chocolate ones and ones with lemon icing and ones with a little coconut and so on. There were hard ones, soft ones and all kinds of ones and so I was really proud of her buying me my Christmas present by herself.
